The Panung

On this page I will tell you a bit more about one of my favorit fashion things, the ChainaMizugi.

What is the Panung ?

(C) by ZoflanThe Panung is the Traditional dress in Thailand. It is a kind of pants that reach from the hip down to the knies. It is folded around the body from one long sheet of silk or cotton.

In our modern time many things funerals.

How to dress in a Panung:

To make your own. you need first a sheet of cloth. it should be aroumd as wide as your legs are long and around 4-5 times as long as wide. Now try to follow the instruktions down here. At first it will be a bit difficult so you must try it a few times before it get in a succesfull result. Best one ore two frinds help you dressing up.

warp the sheet of cloth around your waist exactly in the middle half of the sheet.

Knote both parts of the sheet together. It schould sit properly tight around the waist.

Here you see the redy knoted sheets.
Hold them now straight away.

Now match the bothe edns of the sheet exactly together and be aware that both rimms are in a straight line.

Begin to fold the sheet together. The wide of each fold is around the wide of a hand. Make the folding left-right-left-right...
and so on...

make the folding as long as you reach the other bottom rim of the sheet.

After you reched the end begin to fold it flat and role the folded end one or two times under itself. A secure needle is here very usefull in holding all the folding together.

Now bring the folded part of the sheet between the legs to the backside.

drape the foldings of the Panung onech side symetricel and be shure it looks good.

Secure the Panung around the waist with a girdle or band.

How to cut and sew a Panung:

To make your own.

The minimum measurements needed
( keep the tape loose) are like following:

neck circumference
shoulder width
arm hole size
length of arm
wrist circumference
chest circumference
length from low of neck to largest part of chest
length from back of neck to waist
waist circumference
hip circ.
length from waist to desired hem line
All measurements must be in centimeters, not inches.
